Sweet pears, fresh orange zest and warming cinnamon are topped with a golden pistachio and sesame crumble. It’s an easy but slightly different dessert that’s especially delicious served warm.
Serves: 4–6
Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 35–40 minutes
Ingredients
For the pear filling
- 5 ripe but firm pears
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- Finely grated zest of 1 orange
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp Cinnamon Dry Extract
- 1 tbsp fresh orange juice
- 1 tbsp cornflour
For the crumble topping
- 100g rolled oats
- 75g plain flour
- 75g cold butter, cubed
- 50g light brown sugar
- 40g pistachios, roughly chopped
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- A small pinch of salt
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C fan/200°C conventional.
- Peel, core and slice the pears, then place them in a medium-sized baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine the maple syrup, orange zest, vanilla, Cinnamon Dry Extract, orange juice and cornflour.
- Pour the mixture over the pears and toss gently until evenly coated.
- To make the topping, place the oats, flour, butter, brown sugar and salt in a bowl. Rub together with your fingertips until the mixture resembles chunky breadcrumbs.
- Stir in the pistachios and sesame seeds, then scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the pears.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the topping is golden and the pear filling is bubbling around the edges.
- Leave to rest for five minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream, Greek yoghurt or warm custard.
Our Cinnamon Dry Extract is concentrated, so only a small amount is needed. Mixing it into the maple and orange mixture helps distribute its warming flavour evenly throughout the pears.
